Francis J. Poole
Concept
Francis has developed contemporary themes of perception, some of which explore the place between the seen reality and the unseen existence. There is a rich fabric of emotional charge that takes the viewer beyond the surface, creating a lasting image. Francis has focused upon the co-existence of an inner and outer world that fuses the space between the seer and the seen. He works with the paint to merge spaces, glimpsing lights of one and emotion. A way of seeing the plane of the canvas as a momentary window. This underpins his interest in the way in which we frame reality in the world, a constant process between what we see, know and experience; a term for which he has coined as “Perceptualism” This gives an original dual experience of reality across a field of pure vision.
These paintings have a hard edge materiality of paint structured in harmonies of sensual colour. The paint handling is masterful and high quality rare pigments are ground in to oils by the artist in the studio. Intensive care is given to the basic and complex phases involved in the creating and finish of the art.
