Concept

The Collusion of Reality and Fiction

My paintings are located firmly within the Realist tradition. Light, mood, colour and the geometry of the urban environment allow me to construct images with reference to a contemporary iconography.
The series of Still Life paintings present nocturnal, silent spaces, where human presence is signified through shadows, photographs and personalized object matter. In the series of city paintings i deliberately chose places which felt ‘out of time’ - shop-fronts which may not have changed for a decade or more; the P.O. tower; a tailors shop relocated to an open air museum, and corners of the city which display a sense of potentially abandoned spaces.
